Calstar Grafighter Tuna Rail Rods
Calstar Rail Rods were developed by the Long Range fleet fishing the waters of Baja, Mainland Mexico, offshore banks and islands searching for giant Yellowfin Tuna. These multi day trips leave San Diego and venture south in search of these giants. The boats average 100' in length and carry up to about 20 anglers. This type of fishing creates certain challenges unique to this type of fishing. The typical short 5 to 6' high leverage Tuna rods leave the angler at a disadvantage when the fish gets close to the boat, fishing around the anchor and fishing from a deck that is 6+ feet off the water. In recent years, longer and longer rods have been tried and found to be very productive. Longer rods allow longer casts using the heavy tackle need for these beasts, getting the bait further from the boat, improves chances of getting a bite. The longer Rail rods, also allow the angler to use the railing of the boat as an aid to fight the fish, at the same time the longer rods keep the line further away from the side of the boat, preventing break offs. The longer rods increase the leverage in the fishes favor too, this is important to consider when purchasing Long Range fishing gear.
The models designated with the GFGR code are fitted with Fuji high polish ceramic guides and tip tops. All rods feature Heavy Duty reelseats and gimbals. GFTR models feature Aftco Roller Guides.
