FISHING REPORT – MAY 12-17, 2013
Our departure from the marina started late due to low tides and Mexican inspections. Finally we got underway with smooth water all the way.
Monday and Tuesday had a continuation of smooth water but relatively slow fishing. Glenn Woods landed a 21# Yellowtail for the jackpot on Monday; Cameron Simpson took Tuesday’s jackpot with a 24# 11 ounce Yellowtail. Most of the fish were taken by trolling Mirrolures.
Wednesday morning we fished San Esteban with slow results. Again the best catches were from trolling with Bill Bennett taking the jackpot with a 19# Yellowtail. Jigs began to work but slowly. Left San Esteban for La Guardia for the afternoon fishing. Some boats fished the reefs East of the island landing good numbers of Spotted Bass; other boats continued North and caught Yellowtail and Cabrilla.
Thursday was spent at Refugio Bay with great catches of Yellowtail and Cabrilla both from trolling and jigs. Jerry LeCompte took the daily pot with a 29# Yellowtail using a Blue/White DX.
Friday morning was windy at the Enchanted Islands producing small numbers of Yellowtail, Cabrilla and one Pargo (16#). Larry LeCompte landed a 125# grouper using a Green/Yellow DX and 40# line. Good job to all the jackpot winners.
291 Yellowtail to 29 pounds
463 Cabrilla to 21 pounds
530 Spotted Bass
2 Pargo to 16 pounds
2 Grouper to 125 pounds
Good trip – only negative was an unusual number of stomach distress problems among the customers. Try to stay as clean as you can on the trip and always bring some meds to get through the rough parts.
