Tony Reyes Trip Report and Fish Count for May 5-10, 2013

May 13, 2013 – 11:03 am

The cabrilla fishing was excellent and the grade of  cabrilla was the best we have seen in years. We fished the majority of the time at Partida and Refugio as well as the main island. The water is cooler this time of year than in the past and there was little live bait to be rounded up. The entire area was teeming with bonita but the yellowtail were hard to spot. The best lures of the trip were Mirrolures and Salas DX in Green and Yellow

Fish Count Weight LB.
Cabrilla 610 To 18lbs
Miscellaneous 200 Varied
Yellowtail 58 To 31lbs
Spotted Bass 404 To 10lbs
Grouper 4 101lbs
Black Sea Bass 1 180lbs
Pargos 2 To 10lbs

Tony Reyes Fish Report and Count for April 21st – 26th, 2013

May 13, 2013 – 10:51 am

April 30th, 2013 10:20 am

We just returned from our first trip to Mexico and Tony Reyes Adventures!  We took 26 green hands to the Sea of Cortes.  We had a great educational experience and by far the best fishing trip this group has ever had.  Aside from breathtaking scenery, incredible food, great accommodations and hosts, perfect weather; the fishing toped it off.  Unfortunately, I am not familiar enough with the locations and Island designations as yet, but our experience is as follows.   We had good success on trolling, bottom jigging, boil casts, and cut bait fishing.  Pink and Fire Tiger Mirrorlure proved best, some days purple mackerel and green mackerel took over.  We had some luck on trolling feathers also near boils.  All were blown away by this experience and are already to start 2014 planning.

Thank you Tony Reyes!

Giant Humboldt Squid Being Caught!

January 14, 2013 – 12:40 pm

Its that magical time again when giant Humboldt squid attack your line like its the only thing they were created for. Its so much fun, you really should try it if you haven’t already.

I don’t mess around with a 40 pound set up when I fish them. I used to but I don’t anymore. Now I bring it up to 60 or 80 pound and its just as fun with much less back problem.

Catching giant Humboldt squid is a fun time and I highly recommend you getting out there soon and fishing them, you will love it! Don’t fall overboard when the squid are biting, they are voracious eaters, even resorting to cannibalism!

You are going to need some squid jigs for the event. They have multiple barbs on them and I usually use glow and weighted, it just makes it easier for me.  Appropriate squid jigs can be found here : Giant Humboldt Squid Jigs
